Our Commitment to Privacy
Your privacy is important to us. Hanrick Curran Chartered Accountants is committed to the protection of our clients’ personal information.
Hanrick Curran has created this Privacy Policy and Collection Statement in order to demonstrate its strong commitment to privacy.
The Privacy Policy has been created in accordance with the National Privacy Principles (NPPs) as governed by the Privacy Act 1998.
The privacy policy does not apply to:
1. Acts or practices of Hanrick Curran that are directly related to current or former employee contracts or records.
2. Information about companies or partnerships unless and to the extent that the information is disclosed is specific to identifiable individuals or the company or firm.
If at any time Hanrick Curran is required by Law to release information about you or your organisation, Hanrick Curran must cooperate fully with the external body.

What Sort of Information Does Hanrick Curran Collect?
Hanrick Curran collects information about you (“the informant”) in a number of different ways:
1. Hanrick Curran collects information when you engage the organisation so that Hanrick Curran may provide you with accounting/tax/audit/business advisory services;
2. Hanrick Curran collects information when you sign up for services through our website, register for seminars and events, complete surveys and apply for jobs;
3. When you send an email or other correspondence to Hanrick Curran or to an employee of Hanrick Curran, we collect and store the details and contents of the email/correspondence;
4. In certain circumstances Hanrick Curran will collect personal information from a third party, such as the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), or from your financial institutions or solicitor. In these situations we will inform you that we have obtained the information.
5. Hanrick Curran collects information in relation to business associates and contacts as part of the development of ongoing business relationships.
Why does Hanrick Curran Collect The Information and How Is Your Information Used by Hanrick Curran?
Hanrick Curran collects the information to provide you with a specific tax/audit/accounting/business advisory service. For example, we may use the information you provide us to complete your annual tax return.
Hanrick Curran also uses the information to send you information (either by email or post) that you request. If at any time you receive material that you did not request or do not want to receive such material any more please contact Kelly Langdon (Privacy Officer).
Hanrick Curran may also from time to time use the information to send you information that has not been explicitly requested, such as Hanrick Curran’s regular newsletter or other information that may be relevant to your business.
Hanrick Curran collects information in relation to business associates and contacts as part of the development of ongoing business relationships.
Hanrick Curran collects information from prospective employees to enable Hanrick Curran to assess whether they are suitable for employment.
If the information is to be used for any other purpose that is not considered to be the primary purpose for the collection of that information, Hanrick Curran will obtain prior consent from you for the use of that information.
Who Does Hanrick Curran Disclose Personal Information To?
Hanrick Curran does not share personal information with third parties except as necessary to carry out our business or as required by law or other legal processes. In such situations we will obtain consent from you prior to disclosing information. For example we will obtain consent when transferring information to our Financial Services division.
Hanrick Curran will not sell, rent, trade or otherwise supply to third parties any personal information obtained from you unless you consent.
Data Security of Your Personal Information
Hanrick Curran has security systems in place to secure information. Security systems include:
(a) restricted access to our premises and physical records;
(b) password protection and firewalls to protect electronic information; and
(c) confidentiality clauses in our QA system.
Where information is required for statutory purposes it is maintained until such time that it is no longer required.
Accessing, Connecting & Updating Your Profile
Hanrick Curran gives you the following options for accessing, correcting and updating information previously provided.
1. You may gain access to information that Hanrick Curran has collected about you by contacting Kelly Langdon (Privacy Officer). We will not charge you for responding to such a request, unless we incur costs in providing the information.
2. You are invited to contact Kelly Langdon (Privacy Officer) to notify Hanrick Curran of corrections or updates to the information we have collected about you.
Identifiers
Hanrick Curran does not use Commonwealth identifiers as a means by which you prove your identity. These Commonwealth identifiers include identification numbers such as your Tax File Number (TFN) or Medicare number.
Sensitive Information
Hanrick Curran does not collect sensitive information about yourself unless you have consented or we are required by law. Sensitive information includes the following:
Ethnic or racial origin;
Political opinions;
Membership of a political association;
Religious beliefs or affiliations;
Philosophical beliefs;
Membership of a professional or trade association;
Membership of a trade union;
Sexual preference or practices;
Criminal record; and
Health.
To enable Hanrick Curran to give you the best possible service we may require sensitive information from yourself, for example, claiming a deduction of trade union dues for the completion of your income tax return.
